Aside from its role as an NP-F battery charger, the Toprig’s real utility is that of a battery maintenance device. To quote the included user manual, “To maintain a battery’s health, it is recommended to charge and use the battery regularly. Ideally, it’s recommended to avoid letting a battery drain too much, keeping it above a 20% – 30% charge, but to also avoid charging it to 100%.” These are standards I wasn’t personally aware of, other than it’s advised to use and charge them regularly. However, Toprig’s BC-01 Charger follows this convention, only charging a battery to 99 – 98%. I know this because when I attach what the Toprig displays as a fully charged battery to a device, the device itself will display a 98% charge. I’m going to defer to Toprig’s apparent expertise and go with it. Used as instructed, my impression is that this charger has been designed with the intent of maintaining a battery for maximum service life and performance.Another sophisticated feature of the charger is a “Battery Activation” mode. If you’ve ignored Toprig’s suggestions, let a battery sit around too long or let it become overly discharged so that it will no longer respond to a normal charging cycle, the Toprig has a “Battery Activation” mode. The mode is enabled by holding down the mode button for 3-seconds. In this state, when a battery is connected, the charger will display whether the battery is successfully activated, or fails to do so. NP-F batteries aren’t cheap, so this feature can be a legitimate money-saver.Another feature I really appreciate is that a battery’s charge state will be displayed on the LCD screen just by plugging it into the body of the charger, while the charger need not be attached to a source of power. Even so, it will give a full color indication of how much power is left in the attached battery (s). This is super handy when you have a number of batteries lying around and need to determine which is the freshest. In fact, four can be plugged in at once and left. The charger itself is a solid, all-metal construction, with cooling fins on its underside. It will become warm when charging; the more batteries being charged concurrently, the warmer it gets. Based on the seller’s assertions, it has all kinds of built in protections both for itself and any attached batteries. The Charger is supplied with a high-quality E-Marker USB-C cable. In order to take full advantage of the charger’s capabilities, the user will need to supply a power source of at least 100W capability. Whether there would be any point in using one I haven’t given much though, but there are 100W power banks available. The charger has two charging modes, Smart Charging and Safe Charing. While charging multiple batteries concurrently, “Smart Charging” is automatically negotiating and maintaining the correct current for each of the batteries. When a battery is fully charged, it automatically goes into “Safe Mode,” which, according to Toprig, is for “Battery life protection for maximized performance.” Like I said, this is more than a charger. A read of the clearly written and informative user instructions gives the impression that Toprig knows what they’re talking about too. I am impressed with the chargers build quality, its versatile performance and with Toprig the company. Two important things to bear in mind: this device requires at power source of at least 100W and is specifically built for NP-F series batteries.

𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗕𝗨𝗬:If you don't have a 100W USB-C power adapter then it is something you'll need to get; without it you may find it will struggle to charge a battery, especially if you have multiple batteries that need charging. One of my chargers was so low it wasn't recognised, whereas my 45W charger was but was slower at charging and couldn't pick up my batteries that were completely drained (after I put them on my other charger for 5 mins and put them back on, it did recognise them).I do like the charger though: It's compact in size and the LCD display shows all the relevant bits of info you need to know such as the battery level and the power supply wattage.I much prefer this charger design wise, however, my other charger which is powered by standard power cable is more effective.

NP-F batteries are pretty useful - even if you don't have a Sony camera. If you run light panels or a field monitor you'll likely have a few, and if you do, this charger is definitely worth considering. It can charge 4 batteries, of mixed capacities, simultaneously and quickly, no muss, no fuss. Just plug in the batteries, the charger will detect the capacity, current state of charge, display the results and begin charging. Charge progress is also displayed and refreshed regularly.None of that should be a surprise these days, smart chargers are the norm. However, this is a compact and well built bit of kit with a clear display that gives all the info you need at a glance - and the ability to quick charge four batteries at once is a winner. The charger does get mildly warm in use - which shouldn't come as a surprise considering it's handling almost 100w in quick charge mode when charging 4 batteries at once, but thermals are well controlled via the heatsink that makes up the base. It's a slim, solid, well made bit of kit which easily replaces my previous chargers. I can't speak to longevity or reliability as I haven't had it too long, but there's nothing to indicate that it shouldn't be as reliable as any other charger - and this is much better made than my other two.You will need to supply your own PSU - and a 100W PD one is recommended. With that in mind it's fair to say that it's not cheap. It is, however, a quality piece of kit, and it simplifies charging - and there's a good chance that anyone looking for a charger like this probably has a suitable PSU already.I'm very happy with it, and it's going to get regular use.

This is a very well built charger for NP-F batteries. It's quite heavy for it's size. Entire back is solid aluminum built like heat sink. Though I never felt it even warm during my test up to 40watts charging. It's a very good option to charge up to 4 batteries simultaneous at about 23w each. It has two modes. Smart: allows you to charge up to 23w, and charger decides the current. Safe mode limits charging power to 5w each bay. Good enough for most photographer and these batteries. This is not a RC hobby grade charger, but most chargers for photo/video market doesn't give you any option. This is a nice balance between the two.Reading the battery power by just plugging into charger without connecting any power supply is a nice feature. The charger needs 100w PD power supply. You need to provide this supply, any lower capacity will limit the charging rate depending on use case.I wish this charger was more generic with option for different batteries with adapter plates. All the 7.4v batteries in photo/video world are exactly same chemically and electronically, only difference is their shape, size and connectors. Before this had made my own adapter from cheap charger and plates to use my lipo charger where I can control all parameters. This is very nice no fuss charger for these batteries.
