Long range and high speed for equipment which is compatible is a benefit.Other equipment is an issue you lose contention constantly.Firmware updates require factory reset.

After a few months of use, this router has been a delight.It gives a coverage in all the rooms of my place, about 120m2 with a max loss of 10% on the connecting speed. The setup of the node is straight forward and simple for the basic installation; but the interface offers a lot of additionnal fine tunings options which are far to complicate for me.

This is the first time I leave a review on Amazon. I have tried so many routers the past months and it was not fun. Tplink Deco wifi 7 was good initially, but both units that I have got, kept showing connection errors that I had to return them. Now I have finally found the perfect mesh router. ASUS ET12 is not only fast. The range is so incredibly good that I only needed two units to cover my entire 700m2 house without a dead spot. That beats my old netgear orbi, Eero 6pro, Tplink Deco and the Google 6e pro.

Original review 4 starsThis is a brilliant visual design that won't look out of place in any modern living or office space. The 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz WiFi aerials are all 4x4, but that does mean that the receiving device also needs to have 4x4 aerials to have the fastest link. I have a tablet and a PC card that receives 160MHz at 5GHz and 6GHz (6E), but both have 2x2 aerials. My existing mesh system is two ASUS Zen XT8s with an Ethernet backhaul, so the WiFi 5-2 channel runs at 160MHz; this gives 2.4Gbps in proximity to the XT8s.It's difficult to know if the Amazon Warehouse ET12 that I had is typical, or a previous owner had returned it due to instability with the 5GHz and 6GHz channels. I repeatedly set up all channels and they would be present and operating correctly. After a while, either the 5GHz or the 6GHz channel would drop out leaving the other one running. I also checked with a scanning app that I had lost that signal. Whilst it was operating, the 6GHz 6E channel connected to the tablet at 2.6GHz in the proximity of the router.I've used ASUS motherboards and routers for many years, and know that they normally run without a problem; my XT8s are typical. I wasn't happy to pay even Amazon Warehouses' very reasonable price for a router that was not stable. The ET12 has been returned and my XT8 mesh remains. My experience may not be typical of the ET12.August 2023 UpdateA new ET12 to replace two XT8s in mesh connected with an Ethernet backhaul. The ET12 WiFi distribution is very good, particularly for 5GHz 160MHz. The 6GHz is fine in the proximity of the router that is upstairs, but diminishes in the rooms below; that can be expected with 6GHz. The original intent was to replace the XT8 mesh router with the ET12, as future proofing for when FTTP eventually arrives here. In theory the ET12 and XT8 should be completely compatible with the ET12 as mesh router, but it didn't seem that way. As part of the configuration, I removed the XT8 node downstairs. My wife preferred that look, so for the time being, the ET12 upstairs is a stand alone router, as it has enough 'grunt' for a signal around the house. My wife has an older Microsoft Surface laptop that requires a WiFi 6 dongle to work with the ET12 router (but not the XT8s). The ASUS app is almost a requirement to access the router once it's set up, as entering IP addresses in a browser rarely provides access. I'll consider whether having a second ET12 - in mesh or as an access point - is worthwhile once we have FTTP.Update 11 August 2024I've been running for a few months with an XT8 in mesh with an Ethernet backhaul, that works well. The XT8 doesn't provide 6E, but the transmission from the ET12 is much better than it was. It's been the usual excellent ASUS reliability. Given the cost of the ET12, it would be great if it could be upgraded to WiFi 7.To sum up:* the ET12 price from Amazon is dropping into a more affordable zone (about time) but still expensive for a 6E router;* mesh setup is better now;* ASUS should provide a decent user manual instead of the spartan Quick Start Guide.

I bought this to replace 2 WIFI 5 Mesh AP's.Asus claim only 1 ET12 would cover my house. It didn't, so I had to buy a second. They arrive with almost zero documentation, and the website doesn't offer much more support. I found a Youtuber (Eclipse Reviews) who filled in all the blanks. Big thank you to him!You can use the app or a web gui to configure the ET12's. One word of warning, using the app to create passwords will recommend the usual, long pass phrase, mixed with letters, numbers and characters. Not many characters are supported, so though you can enter them, if you try to progress, nothing happens.That's when I turned to the web gui. This tells you when you are typing if the character is not supported.Aside from that, I find the app better than the web gui.I wanted a new mesh system, as the old one topped out at 200Mbps download speeds and I now have 1Gbps fibre.It's been operational for 4 days now. The ET12 is one of those products that shows how bad the previous system was, even if you didn't realise the issues.It is 100% solid. There are so many options to tweak the WIFI.I would sometimes get packet loss on MS Teams calls. The kids would complain of lag spikes when gaming.Their WIFI connection would sometimes drop.All of these issues have gone with Asus. My Router has a 2.5G port, so I connected the first ET12 via that using Ethernet. The second ET12 is a Mesh node.For that I use the 6Ghz band for backhaul. That operates at a stable 1.3Gbps.Static devices (gaming pc's) connect, and stay on the same AP. They'd hop on the old system.The app shows me how all connected devices are performing and their signal strength, so positioning the ET12's needed a bit of work, but no guessing as I could see the results immediately, and move to improve performance. Just a few centimetres could make a huge difference.Note, I did setup them up as the default, with the ET12 acting as Router, and turned on the AI security. It ran perfectly. My use case is using these in AP mode as I wanted to keep my router. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, but the performance has justified the expense. I'm essentially getting wired performance in every room, but via WIFI.Fantastic performance, really happy with it.

Unser nicht ganz 6 Jahre alter WLAN AP von Ubiquiti hat nicht nur eine bessere Reichweite, sondern auch eine bessere und vor allem stabilere Datendurchsatzrate! Die Tests haben wir mit zwei WIFI6e Geräten sowie 3 Wifi6 Geräte durchgeführt, das Asus Schrottteil war übrigens an unserem 10Gbit Switch angeschlossen und als AP (Tri Band Betrieb) konfiguriert. Egal ob in 10cm, 30cm , 2 Meter und 10 Meter Entfernung hat der ET12 maximal enttäuscht. Daher ist das Gerät für uns nicht nutzbar und wir haben es zurück geschickt. Achja bezüglich der Einrichtung VIA App weiß ich gar nicht was ich dazu sagen soll, denn schlechter geht nun wirklich nicht mehr und das obwohl wir in der Vergangenheit schon mehrfach ASUS Roter inkl. Wifi verwendet hatten. Meiner Meinung nach haben die den Anschluss einfach nur komplett verloren, ich kann mir die guten Tests bei YouTube nicht erklären außer die wurden von ASUS ...naja sagen wir mal gesponsert…..

Wir hatten vorher eine FritzBox 7590 (ohne AX) und haben daraufhin einen 1 Gbit Glasfaser Anschluss bekommen. Im wlan konnte dann natürlich die Fritte mit MIMO 2x2 gar nicht mehr überzeugen.Danach haben wir uns für einen günstigeren Asus Gaming Router entschieden, der nicht viel besser war. Nur minimal.Und nun nutzen wir den ZENWifi seit 2 Monaten. Keine Abbrüche via Modem, 1,1 Gbit Download und 300 Mbit Upload Stabil hinterlegt und dies kommt auch raus.WLAN Reichweite ist sehr gut. Keine Wunder erwarten aber diese ist wirklich wirklich gut.Ca. 600-850 Mbit gehen je nach Reichweite zum Router.Einmal etwas teurer aber dafür was gutes!

Aktuell Fritz!Box 6690 (WLAN 6) am Kabelanschluss Pure Speed 1000. Wunsch: Die WLAN Leistung auf über 1 Gbit/s erhöhen. Mit einem einzelnen ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 (92qm Wohnung wurde sehr gut abgedeckt), 24 Clients darunter ein MacBook Pro 2023 sowie ein iPad Pro 2022 mit Wifi 6e. Problemlose Einrichtung als Access Point. Alle drei Netze wurde mit einer gemeinsamen SSID verwendet. Wifi 6e bringt ca. 20% echten Zuwachs an netto Geschwindigkeit. Leider bleibt die effektive Geschwindigkeit trotzdem unter 1 Gbit/s. Für diesen "Leistungszuwachs" erscheint mir persönlich die notwendige Investitionssumme zu groß. Der WAF (Woman Acceptance Faktor) wurde mit 5 Sternen bewertet, da der "Turm" wirklich großartig wirkt und die (abschaltbare) Beleuchtung nicht aufdringlich ist. Insgesamt ein schönes, technisch gut aufgestelltes - aktuell aber noch teures - Stück Netzwerktechnik. Sicherlich ein Kaufempfehlung bei vorhandenem Glasfasermodem und der Verwendung im Routerbetrieb. Im Access Point Betrieb kann der ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 zwar die Stärke seiner 2x 2,5 GB Ports (NAS Anbindung!) einbringen, die sonstigen Router-Features blieben aber ungenutzt. Daher dazu kein Kommentar.

Eines Vorweg: Um so schneller der Hausanschluss ist, um so mehr muss auch der Router können.Bei z.B. 100 Mbit Hausanschluss ist der Unterschied kaum spürbar, da reicht ein Router für 50 EUR.Der ET12 bzw. diese Rezession ist also nur für die glücklichen mit sehr schnellen Hausanschluss und vielen Geräten im Haus interessant.Ich selbst besitze einen 1000 MBit Anschluss von Vodafon.Ich hatte bisher u.a. den schon sehr potenten Asus RT-AX88U (ca. 200,-) im Einsatz der 2,4 und 5 GHz beherrschte und kann ganz gut vergleichen.Im Haus hängen noch zwei Mesh Router (RT-AX58U + RP-AX56) an dem Hauptrouter, was alles bisher und auch jetzt problemlos funktioniert.Zum Vergleich: Bisher schaffte kein Wifi 6 fähiges Gerät beim bisher eingesetzten RT-AX88U bei 5 Ghz über 500 Mbit im Wlan... (Vodafon Speedtest Plus)Der ET12 schafft hier durchschnittlich bei Wifi 6 fähigen Geräten ca. 700-800 Mbit im 5 und 6 GHz Band, mit leichten Vorteilen im 6 GHz Bereich (ich habe nur ein Gerät das 6 GHz beherrscht...).Update 31.03.2023 : Leider habe ich seit Monaten nur sehr selten überhaupt ein 6GHz Band und muss auf das langsamere 5GHz Band gehen. Das 6Ghz Band schien sich grundlos immer wieder auszuschalten und das bei allen 6E Geräten die ich nutze, schade aber so ist die Leistung nicht hoch genug für das Geld, deshalb die Abwertung. Ich versuche es über den Support oder das Ding geht leider in die Mülltonne.Auch Wifi 5 Geräte bzw. Geräte die im 2,4 Ghz Bereich ( N oder AX) arbeiten haben einen Leistungsschub von ca. 30-40 % erhalten. Es ist im Haus alles ein wenig schneller geworden!Auch die Auslastung des Routers ist bei insg. 30 Geräten im Haus (inkl. Kaffeemaschine und Thermomix -:) nicht über 15% zu bekommen. Da gibt's also zumindest im Privathaushalt Reserven satt.Es kann natürlich teilweise auch daran liegen das das hübsche Gerät jetzt offen auf dem Sideboard steht und nicht mehr versteckt hinter den Schrank...so kann es sauberer "funken", ich kann den ET12 durchgehend eine sehr hohe Performance bescheinigen, die bei dem doch sehr hohen Preis auch zu erwarten ist.Mein Fazit: Ja der ET12 kann eine höhere Wlan Leistung weitergeben als alle bisherigen Router die ich bisher im Einsatz hatte, das bringt aber nur dann etwas wenn der Hausanschluss auch mehr als 500 Mbit besitzt. Hat man weniger Leistung am Hausanschluss reicht auch ein günstiger Wifi6 Router wie z.B. der Asus RT-AX58U den man für 120,- EUR bekommt und auch 500 MBit im Lan schafft.Das 6 Ghz Band des ET12 hat nur schwache Auswirkungen die bei mir kaum messbar waren. Ich denke das es aber bei Mesh Systemen Vorteile gibt wenn diese über 6 GHz verbunden sind. Aber zwei oder drei et12 wären ja kaum bezahlbar, da ist es billiger Leistungen im Haus zu verlegen, komischer Trend den die Hersteller verfolgen, wer gibt 1500,- für Router aus ?Teurer Router für die Verwaltung von vielen Endgeräten, leider mit häufigen Ausfällen im 6Ghz Band.

ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 looks fantastic and it has great performance and range. It also allowed me to upgrade my home Ethernet network to 2.5gb so I now get a fast wifi and a fast Ethernet connection. I also have a future proof setup as WiFi 6E is also covered. I installed three ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12‘s to replace six Gen2 EERO’s and the performance is so much better. The IOS App and the web interface are both easy to use and make initial setup really easy. I would recommend the ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 To everyone.
