After going through 2 glass sleeves, I opted for this unit. Although it is plastic, it can stand up to the heat of both the liquids and the dishwasher. Being plastic, the inside gets a bit scratched from the plunger and coarsely ground coffee, but the scratches are not deep and do not affect the performance.I highly recommend this as a replacement for the original glass.

I have broken so many bodum's over the years, it's great to have a nice plastic replacement. It is a nice, heavy plastic. We haven't had any scratching issues yet, but we do not put it in the dishwasher and only handwash it. It doesn't have the same feel as the glass, and the plunger moves a little tighter, but I can drop it without it costing me $25 a pop now....

I love french press coffee.I have been using multiple Bodum french press coffee makers for along time.The glass beakers always break which is quite frustrating as they are approx. cost you $20.When I found our the shatterproof plastic replacement beaker I was very happy that finally I could use beakers for along time.however after using this plastic beaker for a month or so it started to crack from multiple places. It leaks from the cracks and makes it impossible to use it.It is hard to believe that a prestigious Brand such as Bodum puts such disappointing product on the market place. Also I am disappointed that huge housewhole brand such as Amazon sells such a low quality product. Aren't there product quality departments on both companies to check products before it is offered to consumer?This product is subpar quality and I am utterly disappointed with both Bodum to produce it and Amazon to sell it.Dont buy it.

My husband loves his morning coffee, but we have a terrible time with breaking glass carafes. After breaking the carafe that came with his french press, I was ready to banish homemade coffee.Then I saw this shatterproof plastic one on amazon. I got it, hoping it would be the right size, hoping it wouldn't affect taste, hoping it really was shatterproof.The carafe fits our french press perfectly. It can go through the dishwasher, and it has survived a couple of falls. We've had it around two months now, and it still looks brand new. It's used daily.My husband is a bit of a gourmet when it comes to coffee, and if this affected taste at all, he would not be using it.Update 5/23/11: We have now used this carafe daily for about 15 months, and it is starting to show many cracks. It's still leakproof, but we're starting to worry. We are using metal parts inside, and not silicone, as a couple people here have recommended. I am 99% sure we will just buy another one when the time comes. Maybe we'll also get silicone parts for the inside to encourage it to last longer.
