I bought this along with a pulley to dangle down the loft hatch as my husband hurt his back and was struggling to get things in and out of the loft. Now, I know it's overkill, but heavy things are now hauled up and down in a small garden waste bag without effort, with the pulley being used horizontally as it is designed to do, and the wire hanging vertically over the pulley. Will it haul boats? I have no idea. But it's great for getting huge tents up a loft hatch :D

Bravex Boat Trailer Winch 800lbs/362kgI must admit to never having heard of this brand before so I did wonder about it's strength and quality. I was pleased to find that on arrival the winch was much better than expected. It does appear that Bravex is an American company, but this winch is manufactured in China.The build quality appears to be excellent. The frame of the winch is made from heavy gauge pressed steel, held together with large bolts for strength, these are galvanised to help prevent corrosion. The drum is made from a slightly thinner metal but still appears strong, one side has a huge cog which one would expect to be hardened steel, although there is no way of finding that out. The cog certainly looks strong enough to take the rated 800lb strain. This winch has a 3 way galvanised ratchet lever that also looks strong. The 3 ratchet positions switch smoothly, the lever has a strong spring that snaps it securely into position. The handle is removable by way of a large locking nut, this has a round plastic grip that spins freely on the handle making turning of the handle comfortable.The winch cable is made from multi-strand metal that also is galvanised, this is the traditional style of cable that has been used for many years with winches. The cable is 4mm in diameter with a total length of 8 metres (26 foot). The cable is securely fixed to the drum with a metal clamp held in place by 2 galvanised bolts. On the business end is a heavy duty metal hook which again should not rust.Overall, for the current price of £47.97 I am please with the quality of this. The winch is small and compact measuring 14 x 11.5 x 9.5cm (without the handle), but it will handle up to 800lbs (362kg) in pulling power. The winch is ideal for fitting on a boat trailer, mower trailer, or just general use in a workshop for pulling heavy gear around.
