An excellent introduction to all the core concepts of statistics. Better than my MBA statistics class. I heartily recommend Cartoon Guide to Statistics.Actually, however, the reader needs some background in a number of areas to really appreciate and fully understand the concepts introduced.Cartoon Guide to Statistics--already super excellent--could be 100% improved with more examples for each units and also actual problems to solve. The problems should have solutions with the approach--specific steps used and explained--to get to the solutions.Again, as is, an excellent introduction to the core concepts of statistics.

Mit einigen Bildern und einfacher Sprache wird hier versucht dem Laien Statistik nahe zu bringen. Ein paar Grundkenntnisse sind jedoch sinnvoll, da einige Formeln auftauchen. Das Buch ist für den Einstieg geeignet.Für Mikro- und Makroökonomie gibt es auch Cartoon Guides, die aber deutlich verständlicher sind.

Buen libro para entender conceptos complicados. Me gusta que incluye conceptos complejos y aunque es un acercamiento sencillo y breve me ha ayudado a explicar a clientes no técnicos temas complejos como diseño de experimentos.

The book is absolutely great. It summarizes all the basic statistics with simple and funny examples. It will be very useful for any stats student or anyone who wants to refresh their statistics understanding. There are no tough formulas, rather the intuition and common sense. I highly recommend it.

I used this book as a teaching resource in my classes on introductory statistics. The cartoons are really funny, and help one learn statistics without getting bored.However, one cannot learn statistics from this book alone. At least another basic statistics book should be used alongside. This way the "cartoon guide" can be used to reduce the monotony any other "not cartoon guide" will cause. A few good & basic - easy to read - statistics books that'I recommend are (1) "Statistics in Psychology & Education" by S. K. Mangal (2) "Statistics for Psychology" by Aron & Aron, & (3) "Statistics Explained" by Perry Hinton.Don't go for advanced and often cited books like "Statistics" by Hays, as these are for much more advanced readers, and will only confuse and make you afraid of simple and quite easy-to-use statistics.

statistik kann man mit gutem recht als nicht besonders populär, beliebt oder sexy bezeichnen. und als statistiker ist man auch immer einer etwas befremdlichen sicht seiner mitmenschen ausgesetzt. der grund liegt darin, dass sich viele leute entweder ein schlechtes bild davon machen können was statistik tatsächlich ist oder irgendwann einmal in ihren ausbildungen ein traumatisches erlebnis mit einem entsprechenden dozenten gehabt haben (was leider zu häufig vorkommt). diesen beiden gruppen kann mit diesem buch entgegengetreten werden.es diskutiert weitgehend die inhalte, welche in üblichen einbändigen statistikbuch bearbeitet wird. nur - es macht einen nicht fertig mit zu vielen details und stellt das ganze obendrein lebendig und gut illustriert dar. die quintessenz der themen wird nie aus den augen verloren sondern ausführlich erläutert. somit ist es ein ideales hilfsmittel, um leuten ohne vorkenntnissen und solchen mit den erwähnten traumata anschaulich die wichtigsten konzepte der statistik nahe zu bringe. ich beispielsweise nehme es bei entsprechenden fragen im büro immer als erstes zur hand und interne schulungen zum thema illustriere ich exzessiv mit bildern aus dem cartoon guide.neben dem didaktischen wert zeichnet es sich aber vor allem auch durch eine fachliche korrektheit aus, um welche es in manchem lehrbuch nicht so gut bestellt ist. viele anschauliche beispiele und humoristische illustrationen mit hohem erinnerungswert tragen das ihre zum lernerfolg bei. eine anschauliche quelle von lernmaterial für wirklich alle die sich fortan ex-statistik-muffel nennen wollen. läuterung und vergnügen garantiert!

You learn statistics the easy way! Of course you need to do some work but you really get a great understanding of what it is all about. I recommend it to students who are familiar with algebra. Nevertheless is the cartoon guide very easy to understand. Just try it yourself!

Statistics is a very difficult subject both to learn and teach. I wish I'd discovered this book after I'd been through the first formal class--except it wasn't written then. :) Well anyway, the CGtS is a useful book and I've recommended it to many people, all of whom got a fair amount of mileage from it. You certainly need further references, but the examples are lucid and the silly cartoons help keep people from getting too overwhelmed by seriousness. I also like the fact that the authors go through some of the history of statistics, as the subject is much more comprehensible if you know why people did what they did.Someone mentioned getting SPSS--this is, IMO, a terrible way to learn the topic. Packages should come AFTER understanding, not the other way around. If you want a computer program to help out, use a spreadsheet.

As a statistician and instructor I commonly teach statisticalmethods to non-statisticians. After giving a 20 lecture course at amedical device company, it was suggested to me that I try to teach it like Gonick... Many of the cartoons are instuctive and can be useful in lectures that deal with the topics described but no course should be based solely on this book!
