It does the job. But it's small, and quite frankly a damp cloth costing four dollars does a better job.

This is a great mat on which to sharpen. I’ve got 8-inch diamond stones and this mat’s an ideal size for them. It feels tacky to touch, but works well.

I ordered an extra one of these when I purchased a new set of diamond stones. I primarily use this with my 8000 grit stone. I out it directly on top of my other stone, and it doesn't move a bit. Best part, it cleans up with soap and water. If you need a surface that will hold your sharpening stones still, this mat does a superb job.
