Bought to pop the track rod end joints on a 22 year Zafira A. Needed to use the wide setting. They popped out with little effort. They're sturdy and look roust.

Ball joint was seized solid, steel into ally. Tried the fork type ones you bang on with a hammer, and it wouldn't budge. We did bang this one in then put the bolt in and started turning it. Boy was there a bang when it popped out.

Having struggled with an array of methods to split the ball joint on my 19 year old car for 2 days I decided to buy the tool.It was reassuringly weighty and I needed to use the wider setting which was simple to set. It had the joint split in about 20 seconds, admittedly with an impact wrench. I expect slightly longer doing it manually but would be equally effective. One thing to note, with incredibly old rust welded parts the separation is somewhat violent and loud. Be sure that both sides are secure before removal as imagine if not one part will go flying.Sometimes the right tool for the job is worth the investment and this is one. Would have saved me hours of frustration and I would have had my car fixed much sooner.

As Amazon has hundred of options and reviews I was unsure which to purchase. I went for this as Draper have been around for years. It's simple but strong, I used it on ball joints that may be up to 50 year old. After winding tight and then winding more and some more I could see no distortion of the tool and suddenly the joint releases. I used fairly massive force and the tool is fine. It has two settings to allow for a greater distance between the joint and the of the bolt if needed. Probably won't suit all applications but no tool does.

This ball joint separator was purchased to break the steering tie rod ends and lower suspension arm to wheel bearing carrier ball joints on a 2004 Porsche Boxster in order to fit new springs and struts. The forks of the tool were the correct size (around 20mm) and located snugly under the ball joints without damaging the rubber ball joint seals. The threads and tip of the screw of the tool were lubricated with thin engine oil before use as they did not seem to be moving freely when taken out of the box. The car's suspension was original and had apparently never been dismantled since manufacture. It took just a turn and a half to break all of the joints free (which was a very pleasant surprise). The joints were undamaged and completely serviceable allowing them to be subsequently re-used with just new securing nuts. In summary, this tool is a good substitute for the Porsche special ball joint press tool 9560 and can, therefore, be recommended for working on Porsche Boxsters (986 and 987), 911s (996 and 997) and other Porsche models where the Porsche press tool is specified.
