Ich sicher(t)e normalerweise mit einem Mammut Smart. Tuber sind bei uns in der Halle nicht gern gesehen und Gri Gri mag ich vom Handling her überhaupt nicht.Also hab ich nach langem recherchieren den Jul2 bestellt und probiert.Bin davon überzeugt und würde nicht mehr zum Smart zurück wechseln wollenEinfaches Seilausgeben, einfaches Einholen, blockiert Recht zuverlässig. Ablassen des Gesicherten auch sehr einfach und angenehm - trotz gut benutzter Seile ...Handling ist mit dem vom Smart vergleichbar, man kann sich hiermit auch selbst abseilen (mit prusik)Empfehlung!

You have to judge this device for what it is. You're not going to be out there doing rappelling with it on the side of the mountain. But for just going gym climbing it's fantastic! It's light, thin, simple, and works well. I've used both the Edelrid assisted belay devices as well as the GriGri and I much prefer the action of the Edelrid. I like that it doesn't have moving parts, it feels more reliable and I like that the mechanism of action is just from geometry. If you're going to be out rappelling I'd get something else (like the GigaJul), but for gym climbing I find this to be the ideal belay device.

Super, simpler Automat. Kann beim Ablassen des Kletterers zwar warm werden, kann mit mäßigem Abseilen aber geregelt werden.

finde dieses kleine gerät einfach genial.die Handhabung ist super intuitiv und im vergleich zu einem smart(meine wahrnehmung) ist die Hand Position der fixierenden/abseilenden hand einfach angenehmer da man die hand nicht so unnatürlich hoch raufdrehen muss und der daumen einfach wunderbar in der schlaufe sitzt.ebenfalls super finde ich das all metall design würd sagen das es kaum kaputt zu kriegen ist.natürlich ist das Gerät nicht dafür vorgesehen grob fahrlässig zu sichern und darauf zu vertrauen das das gerät den Kletterer fängt, aber es tut dies perfekt und schließt immer (hab es vielfach probiert natürlich nur in sicherer umgebung und auch wenn es immer geschlossen hat würde ich nicht darauf vertrauen und einfach verantwortungsvoll sichern, ich sehe das eher als zusätzliche Sicherheit wenn irgendwas grob schiefgehen sollte)das einholen und ausgeben des seils ist dank der Konstruktion tadellos ohne ansträngung möglich

I have used this for over a year now, mostly for indoor climbing. When i was looking for an assisted braking device that doesn't cost a bomb, it was down to either the Jul2 or Mammut Smart. In the end, the Jul2's simplicity, stainless steel construction and size won it for me.I like the simplicity of the Jul 2. It is designed to look and operate pretty much like any other tubular belay device, so for anyone familiar with the usual tubes, it's not much of an issue to transition over. On the other hand, the look and feel of the Mammut Smart is significantly different, so there will be a bit of a getting use to. In terms of footprint, the Jul2 is smaller and more compact than the the Smart. One of the minor but irritating issues i have with the Smart is, quite often, when the Smart is hanging on the gear loop of my harness, the 'hook' at the end tend to get caught onto ropes and other stuff. This does not happen with the Jul2.The stainless steel construction of the Jul2 is a win for me. Steel is wear resistant, so you will never have to replace this device ever, it should last forever if used properly. After 1 year of weekly use, there is no sign of wear on my Jul2 at all. Although it weigh a little more, i find that it is not much of an issue, considering the Grigri is almost twice the weight. Besides, the steel makes the Jul2 feels so much more bomber.Operations wise, typically you would lower your climber by pushing the Jul2 with your thumb, thereby tilting the device and allowing the rope to slide through. This is essentially the same as the Mammut Smart. However, if the climber is a lot heavier than the belayer, it can be quite a challenge to lower the climber smoothly. The good news is, there is another way to hold the device which allows the belayer to lower in a more controlled manner. It's hard to describe it here, but you can watch the Jul2 video on youtube uploaded by WeighMyRack, starting from 1:30 (link: https://youtu.be/_LtcTgWM8kE?t=1m30s ) By holding it this way, the belayer can tilt the device in a much more controlled manner.

Incredibly easy to use, assisted being without any moving parts. Lifting the thumb catch makes paying out slack a breeze while letting you keep your hand on the break end of the rope.Excellent to use with beginner climbers who are a little slower or people working on a project needing to frequently rest, let's you keep them in position without having to have full tension on the break line, saving your arm for when it's your turn on the wall.Works exactly the same as a standard ATC/tube belay device.Definitely use with a steel carabiner, preferably the one edelrid recommend as it will quickly wear an aluminium carabiner.

Utilisation pour l'escalade. J'ai acheté ce système pour apprendre à mon fils l'assurage. Il fonctionne en gros comme tout les tubes et il est auto-freinant. Sont utilisation est simple mais attention au sens de passage car non réversible! Bien vérifier avant le départ ! Peut être utilisé en rappel (sans oublier la cordelette de sécurité). Si la corde est passé correctement, il est naturel à l'utilisation et récupère en sécurité les erreurs de manipulation des débutants (main droite qui lache la corde... il se bloque très bien tout seul). Attention, il faut lui adjoindre un mousqueton HMS. De plus, sa capacité de freinage sur corde de moins de 9.4mm le limite vite a des masses inférieur à 60 kg (consulter le tableau masse/corde sur le site du fabricant pour savoir s'il peut vous convenir). Je ne l'utilise pas pour les adultes et encore moins en ouverture à cause de ma corde qui est en 9.4mm. Par contre, mon fils l'adore, aussi bien pour assurer que pour le rappel en moulinette ou sur corde simple (toujours avec avec un noeud français pour doubler la sécurité). Le choix des matériaux de ce tube le rende un peu agressif pour les mousqueton HMS... à voir dans le temps...

Very easy to use - not a good training belay, buy a bug for that - but if you know what you are doing then this is the absolute business.Unlike a GrisGris or similar, there are no moving parts in this belay, so nothing to go wrong.To let the rope out you just lift the front. Takes a while to become smooth but you get used to it.Virtually impossible to drop someone with this belay. You don't even need to hold on to the bottom rope really - the device self locks, gripping the rope between the belay and your carabiner. As long as the bottom rope is pointing downwards the device will work. Though you should still grip the bottom rope.I find it particularly useful because my climbing partner usually gets half way up the wall and then sits there for five minutes flapping her arms about. If I'm using the old bug she then complains that I'm letting the rope out. Does not happen with the Jul2.
