Escaping From Houdini (Stalking Jack the Ripper, 3, Band 3)

Comprei em segunda-mão, só apresenta algumas marcas de uso na contra-capa mas em geral quase nem se nota que não é novo! Veio em excelentes condições.

Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, endlich den dritten Band von den lesen. Ich muss sagen, dass er sogar besser ist als der zweite. Die Geschichte ist spannender und der Krimianteil ist interessanter gestaltet.Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist auch hier wieder sehr flüssig und locker. Dadurch kommen die Charaktere besser zur Geltung und werden intensiver bearbeitet. Auch die Entwicklung der Charaktere ist sehr gut gelungen.Audrey Rose und Thomas sind echt tolle Charaktere, die in dem historischen Setting alles Mögliche versuchen, um den Kriminalfall zu lösen. Das ist auch richtig gut ausgearbeitet.Ich freue mich schon sehr auf den nächsten Band.

Came quick and is a part of a great series

4,5 ⭐I loved the book. I was actually surprised that I liked it so much because of the mixed reviews I have read. However, I LOVED it. I loved the different setting (SHIP) , the murder mystery, the carnival, the pacing and the characters. Though, I must say that I am a bit disappointed with Audrey Rose I was mad at her for some of her actions, I was like why?? She made so many excuses). I get that she is written to be strong , independent and to pursue her talent/job no matter what the society puts on women and that she can choose whom to be with and I love that and I still love Audrey Rose but I can't shake the feeling that Thomas deserved better. This man is so adorable and I love him so so much. He is so respectful, brilliant and TRUSTWORTHY( and I can't wait to read Becoming the Dark Prince). I wanted MORE of Thomas. I felt that he was sometimes missing compared to the last books. he wasn't always present.I loved the carnival and the “magic”. We got the tricks and illusions. I sometimes wished we got more of Houdini, himself. I wanted more interactions with him.However, I also liked Mephisto. I think he is a great addition to the story and I loved his crew and Liza is a great cousin.SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOLIERLike Audrey Rose ,what would have happened if you told Thomas about the bargain NOBODY would have found out about it, not Mephisto NOBODY because Thomas is THRUSTWORTHY and you could have solved it together and sooner. Okay, you did not tell him because of Liza but after you gave her the letter why not then why continue the secret?And I think Thomas forgave her a bit too quickly. He made a point but I wanted a bit more. Maybe in the last book?What I meant with Houdini is that I wanted more of him and less the romance between him and Liza. I also guessed that the letter was for his mother as the story progressed.But other than that I loved it.One of my favorite scenes“You’re unbearable,” Mephistopheles muttered.I smiled. “He’s only just beginning.”Thomas ignored the commentary and ticked off probable jobs on his fingers. “Selling food. Selling trinkets. Selling ribbons or silks. Given Lady Crenshaw’s status, I doubt she’d be the one doing any shopping for food supply. It would be too far beneath her. That task would be left to the kitchen staff. Next, I cannot picture her buying a trinket that didn’t come from a more ‘suitable’ shop. Exempli gratia, she would not bother with anything that didn’t cost a significant coin to boast about with the ladies at her weekly tea. Flowers, ribbons, or silks might be the key. It would show her wealth and ability to spend money on frivolous things.”Mephistopheles shook his head. “You’re quite smart, aren’t you?”“Of course I am,” Thomas said. “Is that supposed to be insulting? Whatever will you comment on next; the golden flecks in my eyes? The sharpness of my jaw?”“The extraordinary size of your ego?”An impish grin slowly spread across Thomas’s face. “It’s not the only prodigious thing I can boast about.”I might change the rating to 4 I still dont know because I was frustrated with some of Audrey Rose choices and I wanted a bit more of Thomas but because I really enjoyed the story, murder mystery, the setting and the new characters. I am rounding it 5 stars. For me it's definitely 4,5 stars. It's not 4 or 5 stars.

Amazing book, thrilling til the very end! Mephisto is such an amazing character!

Eu adorei a história e a construção narrativa em consonância com a desconstrução dos personagens para a resolução dos assasinatos no Etruria. Inesperado, mas incrivelmente bem construído e permeado pela atmosfera mágica e ilusória. O leitor adentra a atmosfera do Moonlight Carnival e se torna parte do jogo de ilusões construído. Um verdadeiro truque de mágica!

Enjoyed it like the books before. If you are a very clever and attentive reader (which I am not) I'm sure you can make a guess whos behind the murders. But as for everyone like me, you'll have a grand time throwing around accusations and then have a 'Omg I should have known'- moment at the very end.

Ich war schon von Band 2 absolut begeistert, aber Band 3 hat das noch mal auf ein neues Level gehoben.Wir befinden uns diesmal auf einem Schiff auf dem Weg nach Amerika und Wadsworth und Creswell müssen wieder ein paar Morde aufklären. Die ganze Verstrickung und das Motiv des Mörders wurden hier noch besser als in Band 2 und durch den Karneval lernen wir einige sehr interessante neue Charaktere kennen. Diese stellen auch die Beziehung der Hauptprotagonisten auf die Probe, aber nicht in einer Art und Weise das man nur die Augen verdrehen kann.Ich kann es kaum erwarten Band 4 zu lesen!

Alles in Ordnung.

Es handelt sich hier um den dritten Teil. Ich habe alle 3 Bücher innerhalb kurzer Zeit gelesen, durchgesuchte könnte man sogar sagen. Mir gefallen einfach die Charaktere, Audrey Rose und Thomas wieder herzallerliebst und ihre Freunde und Verwandtschaft schafft es sich auch ins Herz zu stehlen. Man leidet mit Audrey Rose mit, sie knabbert immer noch an den vorangegangenen Ereignissen und braucht einfach Zeit. Alles sehr spannend, der Krimifall, die Toten und dann wird auch noch auf das nächste Buch angedeutet. Hoffentlich kommt es bald raus.Für alle Fans von starken Frau und Mann Teams und spannenden Krimifällen im historischen Gewand.

So I did a reading Marathon where I read all books from the series, and to have every book fresh in my memory. (Which I highly recommend)Escaping from Houdini started really cool and mystrious and I was hooked from the first page on. Like on the first page, they already talk about a wedding and I was here for it.If you read all the books you get to know the characters and I love how they develop in the series, but this was even better.It happen sometimes that the middle of a book can be boring, but not this one. It happens way too much to get bored.And can we talk about that dramatic finale?! Especially the last pages! I nearly cried.I highly recommend this book! Read it!P.S. The Writing is awesome, but a bit difficult. I am from Germany and I would say my English is really good, but some words or phrases I didn't understand and need to look up. But it's worth it!
