I'm not sure what the manufacturer thought could fit in the dishwasher basket, but if it isn't close to flat your going to have a hard time getting it in the basket or breaking the basket altogether. The only thing I've been able to wash in this basket is small tops for condiment jars. I hate cleaning them by hand, so I guess this basket helps.

My dishwasher doesn’t have an exposed heating element, so I can wash plastics in it. Still, small and light plastic items would fly around in the water pressure. That’s where this little gadget comes in. It opens like a book and closes securely with a clip on the three nonhinged edges. [Photo 1] Its capacity is not enormous, but it’s big enough to hold a set of six plastic spoons. [Photo 2] The blue portion is hard plastic, but the white mesh section is stretchy, so items of moderate thickness can fit inside. [Photo 3] On edge, it fits between the wider spokes of the dishwasher. [Photo 4] As a test, I measured dried parsley, whole caraway seeds, chipotle chili, yogurt, Dijon mustard, honey and cooking oil. I put the spoons I used in the caddy and ran it through my dishwasher as part of a typical load, and the spoons came out clean.
