I use an old reptile heater above my work bench for just breaking the cold a touch and for testing Edison bulbs.These are the best I've tested for heat output with a rating of 250w.Nice and bright and at least you know that the bulb is on and could be hot.Nothing wrong with these, Buy with confidence.

I will admit to not being too sure about the size of this, never really owned a bulb of this size, but once I put it into my heat lamp I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly it heats up and that it was an even spread. As a test I placed it at the recommended distance and pointed it at a purposely wet sock with the 2nd sock of the pair in a different location, the one provided heat dried a lot faster as expected without any patches nor was the sock overly hot either. That makes me confident that it would be fine to have animals (like chicks) underneath it with any issues and I honestly would recommend giving it a try.
