The rubber stays in place quite well, which de-activates the switch (thereby breaking the short circuit which is otherwise permanently closed, i.e. negative earth to positive ignition coil output). The rubber connector does feel a bit flimsy, so time will tell. Hypothetically, in usage with an outboard motor on bumpy seas, a poorly secured rubber cap may decide to pop out inadvertantly, thereby activating the switch which closes the ignition short circuit, and consequently causing the engine to stall. But in practice this is unlikely to cause issues in my personal usage, just something to keep in mind. I personally prefer this type of "rubber cap" kill-switch compared with the traditional outboard "plastic fork" type of mechanism, thus why I bought it :)
