I bought a pair of cheap well used snow shoes to try out for the year before I buy pricey ones. It turned out I got what I paid for, straps couldn’t hold together! I bought these even tho some reviews said they only work on msr shoes. They were a little tough to get on but they stay put! So glad I picked these up! Thank you!!

The keepers install easily, but using them isn't so easy when it's cold outside (less than about 30F) and your boots don't have a hard top to push down on. When it's cold outside, and the straps are cold (and thus less pliable), the softer part of the boot on the top of the foot just doesn't provide enough resistance to push the hole in the strap over the top of the keeper. Once you get them on, they don't come off while hiking, whereas the plastic clip keepers aren't as reliable. I do like them though, so I'm going to see if I can't use a plastic or metal tube to provide better downward force than my fingers.

As others have stated, these are extremely difficult to get into the strap to begin with, and positively impossible to snap on when you’re outside and ready to hit the trail. The other reviewers are not exaggerating. I finally took mine out (with the claw of a hammer!!) and am buying a second set of the regular clips so I can have two in each strap (facing opposite directions). Anything would be easier than using these things.

I have found these studs to be VERY helpful on our MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoes. One of the biggest complaints with the current version of those snowshoes is that the clips don’t hold the straps in place and the clips fall off easily when the straps aren’t fastened and get lost. These studs solve both of those problems. Put a stud in each strap on the outside of the clip (see first included photo with straps not fastened). Now the clips can’t slide off. When fastening the straps snap it onto the stud and then tuck it into the clip (see second included photo with straps fastened). Now the strap is held in place by the stud and the clip and the stud keeps the strap engaged into the clip. You may, after a long day in deep snow, find a strap or two escapes from its clip but the studs will hold fast and keep you moving until you are ready to take the snowshoes off. The only irritation is that getting the straps snapped onto the studs is difficult and may require taking your gloves off but I want the studs to be tight so that the strap stays fastened and a little practice will make it easier (it helps to pull on the strap and stretch it so the hole expands). I’d rather take my gloves off once to force the straps to snap in place and not have to worry about it again than have to regularly reattach unfastened straps. We’ve used our two sets of snowshoes with these studs for 3-4 full day hikes this season and have not lost a clip, stud or had a strap come unfastened from the studs. I wish they were cheaper but they are worth it if they keep you hiking and focused on the view.
