The sliding/locking gauge puts the staple where you want it.Hint: Use this on a flat surface. Press firmly down to staple, but release quickly. That frees' the mechanism.If you were to press slowly, the staple will form-up properly, but the staple head will not release,It is all in the smoothness of your approach. Firm and release.BTW - the supplied Rapesco staples are heavy duty. I was really impressed.That 25 year warranty is a no-brainer. Now I have to file the receipt and box.

My son loves making 'books'. This usually means bending over a bunch of sheets of paper so he can have a 20+ page book that he can illustrate and write in With a normal stapler more than 3-5 sheets was a big deal, for this thing it can easily do 30 (it comes with 10mm staples, which is 30-65 sheets, 13mm staples will let you do 70-100). Basically it staples without hardly any effort, it's amazing.I did run into an issue, where when we first got it, my son immediately slammed it halfway down which jammed it up, and because of the design there is no way to flip it up to unjam it. I used a pliers and it came out fairly easily, but it will jam if you're not careful (or attempt to staple without paper).

The staples are definitely bigger than normal and can get through more paper. However, every time I staple see documents they stick to the upper part of the stapler and I have the push it down with my finger. I deducted stars for this because in my view a stapler should cleanly release the document.
