I’m not a serious bikepacker but I am bikepacking curious so I’m slowly building up to a real bikepacking trip and testing out equipment. I’ve used a rear rack before on an overnight trip but this is the first time I’ve tried one of these huge saddlebags. Setting it up for the first time is challenging. But once done it becomes more apparent and logical and I think going forward it’ll be easier. The only problem is I still can’t figure out the purpose of the strap with the metal hook underneath the bag. I have it latched through one of the loops but I don’t see what it does. It doesn’t seem to matter though so that’s fine. You can’t get the bag completely tight but you can come pretty close. The straps, buckles and velcro are all solid. There’s still a bit of sway but I think with a bag this large there will always be some sway. The rigid sheath is a great concert and definitely helps it stay upright and prevents sagging. Just as importantly, it allows you to keep the system affixed to the bike so you can just remove the bag with your personal items in it. This is wonderful. My only concern is that due to the angle if it rains water might collect in the inside bottom of the sheath. Fortunately the storage bag is a dry bag. Also, the dry bag has a mechanism to remove the air which aids in packing more in it. I also tried a smaller dry bag with this sheath and even though I couldn’t carry as much stuff, I liked the smaller drybag better because it was more stable. I’m not convinced this saddlebag is a better solution than a rack system but for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money and/or a rack is not a viable or desirable option this might be a good choice.

This does what it is supposed to do. Holds well on the bike and stays off my rear tire. It is fairly rigid, and you can’t put over sized items in there, so keep that in mind. Only disadvantage is that it blacks my rear light that is also mounted on my seat post. I need to pull it or get creative with my light if I ride at night. Overall a nice product.
