I ordered this axe in September ready for chopping kindling in the winter. It was a pretty mild Autumn so it wasn't until the end of November that I removed the rubber blade protector ready to chop kindling. Why there was a protector there at all is baffling as you could barely cut cheese with it. The blade is extremely thick so it will take a lot of work to sharpen it enough to get an edge on it. I'm not even sure how one would do this. Do not buy this product if you want to do any sort of cutting. I can't return it as the returns window shut at the start of October. Pointless purchase.

Nice looking, although did not have an edge on it at all. Could not split anything. Had to take it to the store to have an edge put on it which cost me. I am not strong enough to use otherwise. You should make it sharp.

This tool initially seems very heavy for kindling, especially if you've only previously used a billhook or lighter splitting tool. At 2.5 lbs it is weighty and not a well balanced tool.However, it is an amazing piece of kit. It's great for splitting smaller logs - 4 inches for oak, up to 8 for chestnut - and acts like a maul thanks to the fat wedge angle.For kindling it works a dream as long as you change your grip position. Move your grip closer to the handle - there's plenty of weight, so providing momentum/force to kindle is not hard work. It intrinsically feels safer than a long splitting blade too, and having recently lost a finger tip and nail to a cleaver this tool gives me the confidence to split without too many worries about injury.A well made and reasonably priced tool for the hee-man log splitter in the family. Adds instant macho aura.

This is the one! Bought one of these years ago and gave it to my BBQ buddy. Took me another for 10 years.to find it - ordered it within minutes of finding it! Instead of a hollow-ground shaped blade like most hand axes, this has a convex shaped blade which splits wood like a splitting maul splits logs! Usually one good whack and the wood divides.
