The book just flows, sometimes from the surface, sometimes diving deep but the flow does not stop. For any Turkish readers, there is no the Turkish translation of the book as well, which I highly recommend too.

The first half of Rubyfruit Jungle introduced me to a brilliant, quick-witted, defiant protagonist who became insufferable by the second half because she couldn't stop talking about how great she is at all times. Molly Bolt is a one-dimensional saviour of everything deviant. She impacts the lives of everyone she meets without any character development of her own. She disapproves of butch lesbians, approves of incest, rapes a woman, all without a shred of regret. Rubyfruit Jungle embodies almost every LGBT stereotype that exists. I'm extremely disappointed with this book. The two stars are for the first half and the pretty cover. Print and paper quality are fine.

This book is amazing. I am a 19 year old queer bookworm and this book blew my expectations. If you are a person looking for a book with queer content but not overwhelmed by gay and need a strong independent female character to look up to, this is your book. Molly is different, growing up in a family she didn’t quite fit and wanted to be loved. She is the character that you warm to love despite her defensive demeanour, she is confident within herself and grows stronger with her understanding of herself. If you’re queer or questioning, she is the character that you will understand so deeply. She puts words to your feelings and acts as the friend you need to boost your ego and make being queer okay.P.s it totally is.Literally just buy this book tbh.Oh also incase it’s important for your book to not look obviously queer, it’s got nothing on it that makes it stand out from the rest of my books! (For all my closet fairy’s out there)

I had this book as a paperback, which has finally fallen apart. To get it in ebook format is great.

I am not a lesbian; I loved this book. It's a story of survival and struggle, the heroine just happens to be a lesbian too. The prose is simple. No doubt there were times when I would have liked Ms. Brown to delve a little more deeply about the concepts and values she is trying to explore. On the other hands prose like this leaves the reader free to think what she/he wants to without being limited by the author. This book is a classic. A lot better than much of the pseudo stuff that passes for literature these days. After all big words and boring passages do not literature or granduer make. Thank you Ms. Brown for writing Rubyfruit Jungle.

I have been reading all of the customer reviews, and it seems that they have been missing the whole point of this book. By no means is this a "lesbian" book, or a book that completely focuses on dealing with "coming out". Nor should this book be read exclusively by lesbians. It's a book that simply follows a unique, strong young woman from when she was a kid to when she grows up into her 20's. Futhermore, the simple style is the essence of the book; more complicated wording would not embody the character of Molly nearly as well. The point is that Molly, who is sassy and a shamelessly cut-and-dry lesbian, does not think that things should be overanalyzed and obsessed over. She sees everything as obvious and blatant. Hence the simple language. It is an unapologetic, extremely funny book, and it is hard to put it down. It pulls you in from the beginning and continues to stay exciting throughout this girl's tumultuous life. In some ways she grows, but in others she never does compromise her gutsy, fiery self. I loved it.

This helped me understand gayness from a new view.

This book was recommended to me by a friend, and when I read the back I wasn't sure I was going to like it. However, once I picked it up, it was impossible to stop. I loved this book... the writing style was simple, though, and it tends to be predictable, but it conveys a message that we all must listen to: tolerance must be taught to our children. All homophobic people, and all str8 and gay people should read this book... it is educational in many ways and a wonderful read.

This book was written as if for children as all her books are. That is not to say that I do not enjoy them. I find that they hit true to home on most occasions. This book in particular I hold close to my heart for this was the book I was introduced to when I had some issues and was unsure of myself. However the book can be scary to some people as it delves into the extreme of some areas that the average person would never encounter. I think if the person reading the book is strong at heart and will, than she should enjoy it. If the reader is uncertain or worried than I feel she should approch the novel with caution as it can seem a little over the top.

I am struck by how many of the reviewers felt they had to categorize this book as 'lesbian fiction.' OK, it is written by a lesbian and its central character is a lesbian and most of the book deals with issues related to sexual orientation. But all books have to be about something, and whether one is a lesbian or not, this book deals with the same human issues that confront everyone in growing up and makeing a place in the world. The very things that some of the reveiwers criticise - the humor and lightness of touch on some serious issues - is exactly what makes this book accessable to the reading public at large and really saves it from being simply 'lesbian fiction'. It is a truely entertaining and (for those who need it) informative book. Lesbians may, indeed, have a predisposition to like it because the themes are more immediate and personal, but all readers can relate.

This is my second reading of Rubyfruit Jungle. I read this one back in the mid-80's, right around the time I heard Rita Mae Brown speak at Gay Games II in Kezar Stadium, San Francisco. Back then the book was considered a landmark. But reading it now it is not hard to see how far the gay movement has come. I have often thought that in the 50's, 60's and 70's nearly any book written by anyone on the subject of "coming out" saw publication, and this book confirms my thinking. If Rubyfruit were published today, it would probably be dismissed as so much drivel. It feels like entire sections of the book were written in a flurry of activity, or perhaps were dictated, then transcribed later. No colors, no descriptive phrases, no style. Just a constant of "he said", "she said", "I did this", "she did that". The book is not without merit, however. The character of Molly Bolt is able to transcend the sloppy writing. She rings true, and her sense of self-worth, along with her fierce determination, are encouraging and refreshing.

This is a story about a girl named Molly as she goes through life doing things her own way. She is bold and gay! She finds how people are predjudice about anybody diffrent! I say hurrah for her!!! It's her life and people shouldn't butt in if they don't like it. At least she is honest about it! I bet nobody can find five people half as honest as her!!! Could've gone a little easy on the discription though!
