These radios are awesome to be able to recharge your devices and still have access to hear what's going on through the radio. It's very solid.

First of all, everyone should have a device like this one. Any time there is a power outage, it is so comforting to know there is still a weather radio, flashlight, charger and alternate crank charger available. The most important thing is to keep it charged. Since it charges on solar, it's good to have it in a handy sunlit area ready for use. It can also be charged with a "C" type cord. It takes quite a few cranks to generate the power for charging if it's needed, but it's great to know that is available if necessary. It is pretty compact too, so it is easy to take along. It has a compass as well as an SOS alarm. I really can't stress enough how GREAT an item this is to have. I have been through Ice and snowstorms as well as hurricanes and I can tell you, this is such a sense of security to have. It makes a super gift for anyone, especially those you hold near and dear to you. I fully recommend this.

Portable powerhouse. On the plus side1. Multiple ways to charge it. Plug it in and power it up. Then keep it topped off by putting it in the sun and letting the solar panel do it's thing. In a pinch it's got a crank that will charge it up.2. Multiple uses. Flashlight, AM/FM Radio, NOAA radio, Area light, portable power pack to charge other devices.3. Has a four light charge meter that gives you an idea of how much charge you have left. The meter comes on for a short time after you use the main flashlight. It doesn't display constantly. It has a red Charge light that I find handy when I want to know if the solar panel is in enough sunlight to be working.4. The front panel is marked well and you can figure out how to use it.5. It's got a main ON/OFF switch. Switch that to OFF and it's not drawing any power, like maybe to that radio that you turned way down but not completely off.On the minus side.1. It's plastic and I don't think it will survive too many drops onto a hard surface. Even if it did crack that might only hurt its waterproof rating. It might still keep on working.2. It says it's waterproof but I wouldn't leave it out in the rain. I haven't done any testing on this but I think water will get in eventually. It can take some splashes and rain just fine if the input/output ports are plugged up with the included rubber plug. For you boaters, this would work great but it doesn't say it will float so you can use it on the boat, not in the water. Velcro it down so it doesn't go overboard.Just a real nice addition to an emergency kit for that cabin, boat or car or when you're tired of going to get a flashlight and the batteries have gone bad. Charge this thing up and then put it in a sunny window to keep it topped off and it should work just fine when you need it. Tape a USB charging cable for your cellphone to the strap so you have it when you need it.
