I loved Frankopan's first book, The Silk Roads, and The New Silk Roads was a great followup. The first one is a very global view of history, each chapter covering whatever the influence was at the time, moving through to the present. Then the second book picks up. The first book doesn't have to be read in order to read the second.

The book is really great for the purpose of showcasing the implications of the Belt and Road Initiative on the participating countries and the Western world order. But the author focuses a little bit too often and too much on the perspectives of and the implications for the USA and especially on the presidential mandate of Trump. Also, the book could be structured more logically and coherently. There are a lot of jumps from topic to topic, which are not necessarily related to one another. The reader can certainly gain a lot of insights and perspectives from the voyages of the author through Asia, and these were the most appealing elements in the book in my opinion, since they showcase you the direct implications and interrelationships that exist along the New Silk Roads.

Um livro de atualidade para compreender o que se passa no mundo e grave erros de alguma governos ainda presos a uma realidade que já se foi. Explica bem o início da transferência do poder imperial do oeste para o leste.

The author shows a pregnant view on exciting historical events which help to understand better actual news. Very readable and interesting.

The title is somehow farfetched and obviously a marketing trick to give a connection to the former book named silk roads by the same author. The chapter titles do repeat this gag but without any logical necessity. The book gives a brief overview over China's International politics and policies in the last decades - interesting but not really new. Xi jinpings belt and road initiative is the starting point for the Review of China's International Policy in Eurasia, Africa, and the Competition for superiority with the USA.

The Eurasian landmass hosts some 70 percent of global population, Africa another 16 percent. What could possibly be wrong about well connecting those people by land and sea? Being American one might argue, if this ever works out peacefully... who needs us? I enjoyed The Silk Roads from the same author a lot – it’s a real eye opener. What more must be said? The New Silk Roads is an up to date epilogue covering the geopolitical situation described by an expert. The Silk Roads will last, this book will be outdated every other year. I agree with the author that the African, Eurasian migration of people, thoughts, goods and spirits is and will be the histories of human mankind. Thank you Mr. Frankopan for keeping us informed.

This books seems like encasement of the previous successful book. Though he did mention this fact in the introduction that initially he had thought of it as an update from 2015, its a pity he did not stick to his initial thoughts and he tried to spin it off as a separate book. From 252 page no to 329 in the end, there is nothing to read except notes, blank pages, info about typography, etc.The essence is chewed and masticated in chapter after chapter.
