This is a very handy tool if you're putting new treads on your stairs and need to template the exact dimensions. It works well on both the treads and the risers. I'm confident I'll find other uses for it, too, but the price is reasonable enough to justify buying it just for this one project I did.

Could be improved. The bolts that secure the two pieces of metal acting as the spacers need friction resistance. When attempting to adjust the two slotted metal bars to obtain the proper width spin when tightening the thumb turns to lock the bars in place. The end pieces that provide the correct angle tighten as they should because the bolt securely attached to the plate. It’s necessary to hold the bolt with a Phillips screw driver while tightening the thumb turn.

I was dreading assisting my son with these steps, until I found this guide to accurately recreate exact angles. We pulled carpet and used LVP over OSB. The guide provided EXACTLY angles on both the risers and treads . I only wish they had used a thumb knob on both sides of the screw to eliminate the need for a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the guide. It was still manageable, and the price was great! The green painters tape shown is simply to hold down the bullnose.

Came fast. Glad I looked at it he night b4 I needed. Would of been 5 stars! But it did not come with the hardware? So I had to find and use bolts! Which worked! But wuz a pain adjusting it with wrenchs!
