From the moment you start playing, the game's aesthetic pulls you in—slick retro visuals, fluid animations, and a soundtrack that keeps your adrenaline pumping. It's like stepping into an '80s sci-fi arcade fever dream in the best way possible.The core gameplay is tight and responsive. You dash, shoot, and deflect projectiles with a cool energy shield mechanic that adds a fresh twist to standard run-and-gun gameplay. The combat feels smooth and rewarding, especially when you get into a good rhythm bouncing between enemies and dodging hazards mid-air.Level design is compact and fast, pushing you to move quickly and keep up with the flow. The game encourages replayability with rankings and secrets, making it perfect for speedrunners or anyone who loves mastering stages. Boss fights are a highlight too—tough, stylish, and satisfying to conquer.My only real knock—and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5—is that the game is pretty short. It leans more toward a bite-sized experience than a full-length campaign, and while the challenge level and replay value help make up for that, a bit more content would’ve been great. Also, a few difficulty spikes might frustrate casual players.That said, Gunborg: Dark Matters is still a standout indie title on the Switch. It’s polished, addicting, and just plain cool.
