I'm going compare this head torch with a comparable Ledlenser HF6R (link at the bottom) torch I was also fortunate enough to review, simply because they are very similar products at similar prices; it might be useful to you the reader to compare and contrast.Weight:Silva Explore 5 119gLedlenser HF6R 136gHowever, subjectively, the Silva feels much lighter, probably because its band is thicker and its body is lighter (Plastic vs Aluminium), so there is less weight on one's forehead.Comfort. They are both comfortable. I like that the Ledlenser has a 'top' strap that can be adjusted independently, giving a greater sense of security. Both have comfortable, but minimal padding over the torch itself.Lighting. The Ledlenser can be set to any angle up to 45 degrees; the Silva has three detents over the same range. In practice, this makes no difference.Lighting modesThe Silva has very simple lighting; dim floodlight; brighter floodlight, brighter floodlight with dim spotlight, and bright floodlight and spotlight. The floodlight is a pool, and there are no defined edges. It also has red and orange, which seems to be red with a little bit of white mixed in. This isn't likely to be very useful for me because when I'm map reading, I'm usually doing so from a phone screen anyway.The Ledlenser gives you independent control of the brightness and flood/spot light, using the button to set brightness, and a dial to change flood/spotlight. It also has a 'superbright' everything on mode, plus a red light mode. It is much more complicated to use, and it can take a while to get the setting you want, but you can get exactly what you want. Both the flood and spot beams are very well-defined, with sharp edges. On paper this is the brighter of the headtorches (800lm vs 700lm), but that extra 100lm is less noticeable than the narrowly defined and even beam patterns.Build for both is excellent and I have no concerns for either. With that said, the Ledlenser is an Aluminium case, which is either overbuilt and overweight, or bulletproof, depending on your preference.Charging. For me this is a clear win for the Silva because it has a USB-C port (with no grommet to lose), verses a USB-C to proprietary magnetic cable that I will lose just when I need it.Heat. Both get no more than warm to the touch, so both cooling solutions (vent on the Silva, Aluminium body on the Ledlenser) work.Both come with helmet adaptors.Both have similar battery indicators.Both have 'lock' functions.In summary...Both have excellent light options, brightness and spread; at a push I prefer the Ledlensar in this regard because of the very even and defined light. However, the USB-C charging, slightly more comfortable weight distribution, and overall weight, I'll be taking the Silva on my next multiday hiking trip. What can I saw, this is the top end of head torches! It has four torch modes plus a red and orange mode (to preserve night vision and to read maps). The 2Ah battery will last 50 hours on the lowest mode making this ideal for camping.It claims to be IP68 waterproof (and states it can withstand being submerged at 1m for 30 minutes) however the USB C charge port is open on the bottom so this puzzles me.This is also supplied with a helmet attachment - remove the head strap and it can clip on.The light is hinged and can be angled down.It is supplied with the clear instructions, USB charging cable and the helmet adapter.If you can stand the price, this is the best head torch out there!

Die Stirnlampe kommt gut, sicher und schick verpackt. Optisch und haptisch lässt diese Lampe keine Wünsche übrig. Alles wirkt solide und stabil verarbeitet und die Materialanmutung ist wertig. Die Lichtausbeute selbst in der niedrigsten Stufe ist wirklich anständig und in der höchsten Stufe schon fast unverschämt hell. Besonders praktisch finden wir die Funktion der roten und orangefarbenen LED, somit auch ideal beim Camping, ohne gleich das ganze Zelt erleuchten zu müssen. Zwar ist der USB C Lade Anschluss auf der Unterseite der Lampe angebracht, dieser wird jedoch durch keinerlei Kappe geschützt. Wir sind gespannt, wie lange der Anschluss somit in Funktion bleibt. Aber nach aktuellem Stand sind wir absolut zufrieden und begeistert und würden uns sofort wieder für dieses Produkt entscheiden.

Lacks instructions so still not sure how to use it or how to fix the helmet clip. Seems to just come with adhesive peel off back, which will ruin a helmet and doesn’t seem strong enough and I don’t want a Michael Schumacher accident. Use the thick wide head strap. Seems bright. Not brilliant, but good for price. Yellow was cheaper and that is what it’s worth. Good job I like yellow too, even if cleaning the elastic will be difficult.
